Wi-Fi The Basics
Discover how your city is becoming liberated from the hassle of wires with the BT Wireless Broadband network.

How it works

First things first

Wireless Broadband is also referred to as Wi-Fi. Wireless Broadband lets users surf the internet, check email, connect to their corporate intranet, or even make calls and play games using a high-speed wireless connection.

The 'broadband' element of Wi-Fi means that connection speeds are typically up to 10 times quicker than both traditional dial-up and existing mobile access services. The 'wireless' element means there's no need to fiddle around with cables or hunt for a free space to plug in your laptop.

How does it work?

With BT Wireless Broadband, you have access to BT Openzone* and the extended BT Openzone network across 12 UK city centres. And now you also have access to BT FON** hotspots. So customers across the UK and Ireland can experience the benefits of broadband around the home via the BT Home Hub, and in more places than ever before when out and about.
